Description
Born in 1926 to a struggling West Texas cowboy, Elmer toils beside the last generation of horse-riding cow-punchers. Nearsighted and convince he'll never be the cowboy his dad is, Elmer determines to become a writer. But as he struggles to persuade a disappointed father to let him attend the faraway University of Texas--and see writing as legitimate work--the Japanese attack Pearl Harbor and trigger events that carry bashful Elmer to the Austrian Alps and into the arms of true love.
